It's me....I'm back again!

This week I decided to get back into the SL Photography game.  I was however, a bit stumped for ideas, and well frankly, motivation, but I accidentally found that Blogger was back up and going, and my old blog was still here!  

Seeing the old photos from when we all did Luna's 52 Weeks of Color Photo Challenge got me all sentimental and also thinking.   

I adored doing those pictures...but I always lost steam about halfway thru due to a busy full time job, and just not having the time to put together an outfit, build a set, and take and edit a new photograph every week.  

After giving it some thought, I settled on doing just one color a month as an easy for everyone goal.  Then a friend suggested doing themes and I thought...perfect!  We can do a color AND a theme of the month, and folks can decide to do one or the other or both!  

I named the challenge the Color My Pixels Photo Challenge, a slight nod to my blog name of Pixels on Parade and off I ran.  I quickly created a Flickr group, a new Primfeed account, and even a Discord server! and sent out messages to people I knew and told them to invite their friends.  

I'm hoping the fun of having a Photo Challenge to do gives people something fun to do!

There I was, all set up and ready to take a Southern Living worthy pic of all the great inexpensive decorative Fall items I had found, and who had to go and get in the shot?  Reylan of course!  That man has a way of popping up whenever a camera is nearby!  Celeste and I are going to have to start locking him in his room if this keeps up!  Anyways, just peek around him at all the goodies I have found for you today! Nothing over $1L! And my outfit, hair and accessories were each under $10L!  Thriftaholic Mena strikes again! As always, anything over $10L is not listed in the credits below, but if you see something, just shoot me a line and I'll give you the deets.

A couple notes.  This hair from Little Bones is phenomenal!  You get 19...yes you read that right...19 full color huds!...for $1L!  Go get this now!  The dress I am wearing, I highly recommend wearing some leggings under it.  It's short, very short, as in my Grammy would have a fit, make sure you are wearing clean underwear kind of short!  I found some great leggings from my go to for affordable style, HOC Industries.  They worked great under the dress and my Grammy won't have to lecture me on things lady's don't do.

Gobble Gobble

Reylan and I decided to have a little fun before our dinner guests arrived.  Don't tell Grammy...she'll make us sit at the kid's table again!

Thanksgiving is about being thankful and for me that means being thankful for what I do have and being thrifty in my spending.  I love finding bargains, especially well made, quality bargains.  In fact with the exception of the casseroles, all the items in this picture, including my dress and Rey's t-shirt, are $10L or less.  Some items have been taken from other props and edited onto my own table.  That's the beauty of thrift shopping.  Finding something, even if it's part of another item, and making it into what you need.

Secret Garden

I never thought of myself as much of a yellow person, but after the second yellow color this challenge, I'm really liking it.

I know this color is a bit deeper than the swatch, but well...you all know my closet...it's still miffed about Pueblo, I'm just lucky I didn't end up with some rubber ducky pasties and a pair of yellow wellies!!

Instead I found this lovely summery romper that just begged to go to our secret garden and lounge in the sun amongst the flowers and the fairies...smart romper!

Glamour Amidst the Darkness

Atop the dark spires of the city she walks in glamour, her bold gown a beacon, defiant yet beautiful, she is...the glamour amidst the darkness.

I've often wanted to do a more editorial look, something that more approaches art than fashion.  It's a style that is completely out of the norm for me, but I've always admired the bold quality of it.  I'm not quite sure I hit that mark, but I do like the juxtaposition of the bold pink lacy gown entwined with the dark shadows and dirty spires high above the city...what do you think?

The Heat is On

I had the idea for this picture as soon as I decided what to wear for Week 19.  See, once again my closet had decided to mutiny on me.  Personally I think it was just too damn hot.  I live in the south and it seems that we skipped right over spring and fan pell mell into summer.  When I asked my closet for something in Pueblo, a color I really really am not fond of btw...its so.....so.....brown :(  Well all my poor closet tossed at me was a lacy bra and panty set and some seamed thigh highs.  Now you, my faithful followers know...if I can make a sheet work...I can certainly make a gorgeous lingerie set work.

I had just gotten the new grotto from Barnesworth Anubis at Collabor8 and that combined with the vintage feel of the lingerie and the gorgeous new hair from Exile for The Dressing Room and I had an idea, a story to tell, ...of a mysterious woman, alone on her balustrade, enjoying the dying rays of the sun, waiting for the cool air and end to the oppressing heat.  Unbeknownst to her, a camera clicks away, capturing her moment of solitude.  Who is the photographer?...the paparazzi?, the police?, a private eye?, a secret admirer? and who is the woman?  A fading starlet?, a mobster's moxie?, the mistress?, the woman you sit next to on the subway every day?

The picture is meant to spark a story, she is who you want her to be, the photographer is whoever you want him to be, the photo is merely the starting point,...who will you be today?

Dancing With Myself

I truly had no idea which way this week's look would go.  I frantically searched my closet for anything to use this week.  I didn't think you'd all let me get away with a sheet twice...plus a grey sheet...well, that's just...not very Aeva!

So off into my closet I dove, searching for grey, gray, smoke, pewter, iron, steel and was about to give up and look for the sheet again when I said..."Hmm, let me try silver."  See, I had found some stuff...an old grey sweater...I know I know...I can hear you all going..."Oh god no...Not another sweater"...but nopes, I didnt wear the sweater...you're all shocked silent, I can tell.  Oh...I digressed again...*coughs*...as I was saying...

I found some stuff.  The aforementioned sweater, a pair of leggings, some dove grey stockings, a pair of slacks...but nothing called to me and said..."Pick me...pick me!"...I think the jig is up and my closet has grown fearful of my weekly forays and advised all the colors to take a vow of silence.  But apparently no one told silver this and there I found a sparkly pretty mesh dress that was the perfect shade.  I twisted my hair up, added in one of my favorite jewelry sets and threw on some simple black pumps and I was ready for some dancing....by myself unfortunately...oh well...if it was good enough for Billy Idol, it's good enough for me!

Aeva and the Art of Retrology

I had a lot of fun putting this outfit together and a bit of help from a couple of friends who offered suggestions as the look was coming together...thank you, you know who you are!

This weeks look for me was all about going retro and finding things from my inventory that have stood the test of time.  See the dress I'm wearing this week...guess how old it is....go head...I'll wait.....
2011?..nopes...2009?...nopes...it's from...2007!  In fact, just about half of my outfit is from 2009 or earlier.

Some might say there are very few things from SL in 2007 worth saving and for the most part you'd be right, but not this dress...it's a truly well made dress from a well known designer.  Heck, a trip thru the marketplace will show it to be better made than some things that were made within the past year.

And therein lies my modus operandi when shopping.  I always look for and buy well made pieces, pieces that I can wear again and again...and in the case of this dress....5 years later.  Sure, little of my inventory remains from my first year in SL, some of it was truly horrid, but there were gems to be found...even back then!  So always shop smart my fellow fashionistas!

Now you all know my affinity for the color pink and all it's various shades and hues.  Well you can now take Seashell peach off the list.  Holy frijole, what a hard color!  I dug thru the darkest scariest corners of my closet and all I could find was a sheet...one lone swath of fabric, hidden in the recesses of my rather large and overflowing closet, that before today, I would have proudly proclaimed that I could find any color that Luna threw at us in there.  Well, technically I still did...I mean, sure I'm more clutching it to my body than actually "wearing" it, but, I'm wearing the color....hey...a sheet counts!  and see...I did a gorgeous artistic and lovely shot to enhance the seashell peachiness of the sheet... isn't it pretty?...you won't even notice I'm barely "wearing" the color...*bats eyes innocently*

A Trio of Delights

RL has been kicking my behind up one side and down the other and I was terribly behind in my postings.   I decided to set aside an evening of nothing but posties and piccies and buckled down, tore thru my closet and caught myself back up...yay!...*collapses and directs you to the pictures*

And finally we have Royal Purple.  You might need to sit down for this one...I went a little crazy and out of the norm for me.  Not a sweater dress to be found anywhere even close by.  

This color just screamed for something sexy and wild and so I dug in the back recesses of my closet for my rarely used latex selections and shimmied my way into this sexy little number.  A pair of ballet boots had me dancing on my tippy toes as I swayed to the beats pulsing in the club add in some fun purple jewelry and a quick dye job and  *twirls* the Purple Passionista is ready to rock the club. RAWR!

The Amazing Aquamarine!

I had the idea to do something a little different this week.  The color aquamarine is definitely one that was wowsa bright!, but I knew I had it in my inventory, lol.

I have always loved the old time Burlesque & Vaudeville era photos and lucky for me I had one in this week's color.  We won't mention I also have a few other colors too...*coughs*...I did say I like the theme after all.

This look was very easy to bring together at the outfit from Phoenix Rising has everything you need.  All I had to do was add a dashing top hat, some pretty jewels and a pair of classic black pumps and voila...abracadabra, The Amazing Aquamarine is here to perform for you.  Please remember to tip your waitstaff and try the veal...I'll be here all week!

The Dirty Side of Avocado

Well ok, so not really dirty...but it's the best title I could come up with!  Just look at the pretty pictures and ignore the title!...look see...pretty pictures...pretty pictures!

I hope that no one minds me putting in 3 pictures of the same outfit instead of one...I've been enjoying the last few months of Picnik while I can.

This outfit came together super super easy for me.  I searched my closet for avocado, not really expecting to find anything, but lo and behold...there was a romper and some tights from JANE...in avocado!...huzzah!

I rifled thru my closet, looking for things to complete the outfit and this lovely suede skirt from G*Fields and a sweater shrug from VioMagic set the green off nicely...(yes yes I know...another sweater!...I missed my sweaters too much to stay away for long, dont be mad!)

I slipped on some fun green flats and voila...all done!  What do you think?  Do you like my Dirty Avocado?...heehee...sounds like a fun name for a band!

Sunshine, On My Shoulders Makes Me Happy

Cheesy John Denver quotes aside, I do love the feel of sunshine on my shoulders...demmits, I cannot say those words without singing them!...ahem...I digress.  I seem to do that alot in this blog.  Feel free to laugh with me, sing with me or silently curse me under your breath, I don't mind!

This week's color inspired me to put aside my sweaters and break out the summer wear in anticipation of winter's end....please please please let it be soon!

I remembered I had this totally adorable outfit from G*Fields that had been a group gift last year and it was perfect for my mood.  All I needed were some bangles for my wrists and a pretty glass ring necklace that I have had for years.  I didn't even bother with shoes.  Who needs them when you have grass this lush to tickle your toes?!

For Love of Sweaters and Raspberries

It's week 8 of Luna's Challenge and I'm only just a lil behind.  Folly threw me for a little bit of a loop, but as soon as I saw Dark Raspberry I was right back on track!

By now you all know of my love affair with sweater dresses.  Some might call it an obsession really.  There's just something about a scrummy soft sweater that hugs all your curves and feels so cushy smooshy soft...ahem...'scuse me...I digress.

Anywho's, I know this sweater is a tad darker than the swatch, but it was close enough that I had to wear it.  See, I have had this sweater since August of 2008 and I love it just as much now as I did back then.  I think its a testament to a truly well done classic piece that will never leave my closet.  The texture on the sweater is simply divine and way ahead of its time for being a piece created in 2008.  It is perhaps my favorite piece of clothing I own in SL..I <3 it....ALOT!

Cupid's Folly

It's week 7 and this was honestly the first week that really presented a challenge for me as I had absolutely nothing but a bra and a pair of panties in this week's color!

I set out on my search and really just had a hard time finding anything that was in the correct color or that called out to me.  Finally I stumbled upon this dress on the marketplace by a new to me designer, milevA.

It was perfect!  The design was very much Aeva and it was a spot on match for the color.  It was also only $55L and came with 4 different skirt options, and loads more goodies that I didnt show here!  Aeva wins again!  Huzzah!

With the color and the time of year in mind, I knew I wanted to do something with a little Valentine's Day feel to it.  I went searching in my cavernous inventory and found this bow & arrow pose set buried deep in my animation folder from 2010!!  Sometimes it pays to hold on to things, hahaha.

One of my friends from plurk pointed me to a great location for my shot and off I went.  After tweaking my WL settings to match the dress and my surroundings...Week 7 and my interpretation of Aeva as a fashionably chic cupid was in the bag!
